...SPOTTY LIGHT ICE ACCUMULATION POSSIBLE ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS TONIGHT AND EARLY FRIDAY... Precipitation is expected to develop over the North Carolina mountains beginning this evening. Although temperatures will initially be above freezing, allowing just rain to fall across much of the area, the falling precipitation is expected to cool the atmosphere, with near-freezing temperatures expected to develop in locations along the Blue Ridge escarpment, from around Black Mountain, to Mount Mitchell, to Spruce Pine and the Blowing Rock area. This will result in spotty freezing rain and light ice accumulation in these areas, with any icing expected to remain mostly confined to elevated surfaces. Temperatures are expected to warm above freezing by around sunrise, allowing precipitation to change back to rain.
