HIDE Special Weather Statement issued January 21 at 3:44AM EST by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg
...LIGHT WINTRY MIX POSSIBLE EARLY THIS MORNING...
Light precipitation will continue to spread east across the
mountains early this morning. As the precipitation arrives, it
could fall as a light wintry mix of rain, sleet, or snow, but a
changeover to rain will occur quickly. While temperatures are
expected to be warm enough for most of the precipitation to fall
as light rain, some trapped cold air in the mountain valleys could
allow for some localized freezing rain. Temperatures above 5000
feet in elevation may fall or remain below freezing on some
ridgetops or peaks, resulting in freezing rain causing a light
glaze of ice mainly on elevated surfaces. The wintry mix will be
short- lived as temperatures slowly rise through daybreak. No
significant accumulation is expected, but there could be a few
slippery spots on bridges and overpasses through daybreak. By mid-
morning, the precipitation should be all rain.
