Forecast Discussion

A cold front that brought pre-dawn showers will be pressing through the area this morning, kicking up the winds behind it for the afternoon. Temperatures will still be pleasant today, as cold air will lag the front, arriving overnight. North and west of Asheville, up along the NC/TN border, there could even be a few snow flurries toward daybreak Friday.

Friday will be bright, sunny, but quite cool. Expect a frosty start to your Saturday, but a good rebound in afternoon temperatures.

Low-pressure taking shape over the southern Plains by late in the weekend will track into the lower Great Lakes region by early Monday. This developing storm system will spread rain into the region for Sunday, with the heaviest rainfall occurring Sunday PM. A couple inches of rain is possible with this wet-weather maker. Any leftover rain ends Monday morning, with skies becoming sunny. Much like today, cold air will lag the system’s frontal passage, so that it will be mild. Thereafter, a noticeable cooling trend will commence for Tuesday and Wednesday. Another wave along the front could bring some chilly lighter rain for the middle of next week (with even some wet snow possible higher elevations).
